Before you start

The minimum age which you can legally drive a car on the public road is 17.

You will need your provisional licence before you can take lessons, although you can book them at any time. Complete application form D1 and photocard application D750 available from most Post Offices. You can apply for your licence up to three months before your 17th birthday.

Until the day you pass the practical part of the Driving Test, you  are not allowed to drive on your own.

It may also be worthwhile having an eyesight test to check that you meet the minimum eyesight standard for driving.
